DevOps Chef CookBook Developer

Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished Chef Cookbook Developer to develop and implement complex automation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in configuration management, infrastructure as code (IaC), and a CI/CD pipeline. The professional will be entrusted with the design, management, and maintenance of Chef cookbooks that will automate the deployment and configuration of infrastructure in various environment.

• Develop and Maintain Chef Cookbooks: Design, maintain, and optimize Chef cookbooks and recipes to automate deployment, configuration, and management of infrastructure and applications.

• Complex Automation Solutions: Plan and implement complex automation solutions for streamlining infrastructure provisioning, application deployments, and environment configurations.

• Collaboration: Liaise with DevOps engineers and developers and other stakeholders to comprehend their automation requirements and deliver scalable and reliable solutions.

• CI/CD Integration: Integrate Chef cookbooks into the CI/CD pipelines to achieve continuous integration and delivery of changes in infrastructure.

• Infrastructure as Code: On Chef, design, implement, and manage infrastructure as code-namely, consistent, repeatable, and scalable across multi-environments.

• Testing and Validation: Develop automated tests of Chef cookbooks on tools like TestKitchen, InSpec, or similar, to ensure high-quality and reliable code.

• Documentation: Create documentation of Chef cookbooks, recipes, and other associated automation processes and maintain records of these.

• Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of Chef cookbooks and the automation process.

• Troubleshooting and Support: This will involve providing technical support and troubleshooting capabilities in regard to Chef cookbooks and infrastructure automation.

Qualifications

• More than 3 years of DevOps or System Administration experience with strong exposure to automation and configuration management.

• Proven experience in developing and maintaining Chef cookbooks and recipes.

• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines and integrating Chef with tools such as Jenkins or similar.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Chef, Ruby, and other scripting languages such as Python and Bash.

• Hands-on cloud experience with AWS, Azure, and GCP to automate infrastructure on these platforms.

• Familiarity with Git version control or similar and collaborative platforms such as bitbucket, GitHub etc.

• Working experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools and practices.

• Strong knowledge of general principles of networking and system administration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Chef certification or equivalent DevOps/automation certifications

• Familiarity with other configuration management software such as Puppet, Ansible, etc.

• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools:  ELK stack, Splunk, Prometheus. Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Confluence, etc.
